Hyundai-owned Supernal and Microsoft have announced a collaboration to accelerate the development of advanced air mobility (AAM) technology. Using Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform, Supernal will run secure simulations to advance autonomy, digital operations and cloud integration technologies for the aviation industry. Microsoft will provide Supernal with early access to Project AirSim, an AI-first simulation platform, to safely build, test, train, and validate autonomous aircraft transportation. Additionally, the two companies are looking to use Microsoft's mixed-reality headset, HoloLens 2, to create AR applications for vehicle and manufacturing operations. With the Microsoft Cloud, Supernal can unlock the computing power it needs to build, validate, and deploy electric air vehicles at scale, contributing to the commercialisation of AAM solutions.
The collaboration between Supernal and Microsoft seeks to bridge the gap between the physical and digital worlds, making air travel more efficient and safe. By using Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform and Project AirSim, Supernal will be able to simulate various scenarios and environmental conditions that could potentially arise when operating autonomous aircraft. The use of the HoloLens 2 will also allow technicians to have real-time visual feedback during maintenance and operations, helping to speed up the process of commercialisation. Ultimately, this collaboration will help to revolutionise the way people travel and experience air transport, making the possibilities of AAM a reality.
